What you need
- A microphone.
- Headphones. With speakers the others hear themselves through your microphone.
- A server that runs VisionJK. On other servers you play as always, just without voice.
Pick your key
- Open , then .
- Click and press the key you want.
- In the game, hold that key and speak. Let go when you are done.
The very first time you press the key it takes a moment, because the microphone is opened then. You hear the others without pressing anything.
Push to talk or open microphone
Under , you choose the mode:
- Push To Talk: you are only heard while you hold your key. This is how it starts out.
- Voice Activation: the microphone is open all the time and sends whatever is loud enough.
On the same page you set how loud the others are (Volume) and how loud you are sent (Microphone Gain).
With push to talk your microphone is only open while you use it, and it is closed again half a minute after your last word. If you never press the key, it is never opened.
How it sounds
A voice comes from where its player stands. Somebody next to you is loud, somebody across the level is quiet or not heard at all, and a voice behind a wall sounds muffled. You see who is talking: there is a sign over the head of the player and a list at the left edge of your screen.
How far a voice carries is set by the server. Some servers let everybody hear everybody.
Mute somebody
Open the console (press the key left of 1) and type:
| Type this | What it does |
|---|---|
voice_mute name | You no longer hear that player. |
voice_unmute name | You hear the player again. |
voice_unmute all | Nobody is muted any more. |
A mute lasts until the level changes.
If it does not work
- You hear nobody and nobody hears you. The server may not run VisionJK, or its owner switched voice off. Type
voice_statusinto the console: it says whether the voice chat is connected. - The others hear an echo of themselves. Use headphones.
- You are too quiet or too loud. Change Microphone Gain under Setup, Voice Chat.
- The wrong microphone is used. VisionJK takes the microphone your system uses. Choose the right one in the sound settings of your computer.
