What you need
- The original game Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, installed. VisionJK is the program that runs the game. The levels, characters and sounds come from the game you own.
- The VisionJK download for your system, from the download section.
Install it
- Find the folder where the game is installed. Inside it there is a folder named GameData.
- Unpack the VisionJK download. You get one folder named after the version.
- Copy everything that is inside that folder into GameData. If you are asked whether folders may be merged, say yes.
Nothing of the original game is replaced, it still starts as before. Two cases where a copy of GameData first is a good idea: you already use OpenJK in that folder, or you have a folder named japlus there with your own settings. VisionJK brings files with the same names.
Start it
Open GameData and start visionjk.x86_64.exe on Windows or visionjk.x86_64 on Linux. The main menu comes up with JA+ already active. There is nothing else to switch on.
Your settings are saved on their own: on Windows in My Games\VisionJK in your documents folder, on Linux in ~/.local/share/visionjk.
Join a game
- In the main menu choose , then .
- Pick a server from the list and join. VisionJK works with normal Jedi Academy servers, also with servers that run other mods.
- Choose your character and your saber, and you are in.
On a server that runs VisionJK you get everything: voice chat and all the extras. On other servers you play by their rules, as you always did.
Make it yours
Everything is in the menu under and .
| Where | What you can set |
|---|---|
| Setup, Video | The size of the picture, window or fullscreen, anti-aliasing, and the renderer: Vulkan is the new one, OpenGL the classic one. |
| Setup, Sound | 3D Sound from Off to Very High, and whether you listen with headphones or speakers. |
| Setup, Voice Chat | Push to talk or open microphone, how loud the others are, how loud you are. See the guide Voice chat. |
| Controls, JA+ Control | Keys for the grappling hook, the jetpack, the full force duel and for talking. See The JA+ extras. |
If something does not work
- The game does not start or says files are missing. Check that the VisionJK files are directly inside GameData, next to the folder named base, and not one folder deeper.
- The picture looks wrong. VisionJK switches to the classic renderer by itself when the new one can not run on your computer. You can also choose it yourself under Setup, Video, Renderer.
- Nobody hears you. You need a key for talking first. The guide Voice chat shows where.
